OBJECTIVE:
The overall objective of the Graphic Design capstone at Oregon State University is for the student designer to identify a real world problem, and proceed to solve it using their learned design skills.
the problem:
Because of my passion for climbing, my decision for my capstone project was clear. I wanted to identify an issue commonly found among the climbing community, and solve it.

In order to identify an issue, I surveyed many climbing communities, both online and in-person. With this crowdsourcing, I learned that the most prominent issue that climbers experience isn't even through the activity itself- it revolves around the excessive amount of gear needed for climbing. Through further research (displayed on right) I collected information about vital rock climbing gear that the user often forgets to bring to their climbing sessions.

TLDR: Rock climbers forget gear at home. I'm going to make it so that they can't forget their gear.

the solution:
The Crag Bag is the solution to the forgotten gear issue.  The Crag Bag is a small, zipper-seal, clamshell pouch that contains all of the most commonly forgotten rock climbing gear mentioned by the surveyed climbers.

This pouch includes climbing tape, hand salve, nail clippers, a chalk brush, and an extra carabiner.

"But what if the climber forgets their crag bag at home anyway?"

Without chalk, a climber is nothing. Thus, the Crag Bag fits perfectly into the zipper pocket of the included chalkbag, making all of the essentials virtually impossible to forget. With the Crag Bag, you can keep on climbing.
